NH Heating & Cooling Rebates and Incentives (2026)
Upgrading your heating or cooling? New Hampshire homeowners can get money back on qualifying heat pumps, central air conditioners and heat pump water heaters through NHSaves, the energy efficiency program run by the state's electric utilities. Capital HVAC installs qualifying equipment from Mitsubishi, Rheem, Goodman and more, and we'll help you figure out which rebates you qualify for and get the paperwork right.
NHSaves Heat Pump Rebates
Available to customers of Eversource, Liberty, Unitil and the New Hampshire Electric Co-op:
- Air-source heat pumps (ducted or ductless mini-splits): $250 per ton
- Replacing electric baseboard or other electric resistance heat: up to $2,000 per ton (pre-verification required before installation)
- Wi-Fi thermostat installed with a qualified heat pump: $85
- ENERGY STAR central air conditioner: $70 per ton
Heating with oil, propane or natural gas? You still qualify for the $250-per-ton heat pump rebate. Equipment must be on the NHSaves qualified product list, and rebates are capped at 5 tons per account.
Heat Pump Water Heater Rebate
Get a $900 rebate on a qualifying ENERGY STAR heat pump water heater (up to 85 gallons). On most installs of 55 gallons or less, the rebate is taken off instantly at the supply house, so you see the savings right on your invoice.
Coming Soon: Up to $8,000 Heat Pump Rebate
New Hampshire is preparing to launch a new Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate program, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. Once it opens, income-qualified homeowners could receive up to $8,000 toward a heat pump for heating and cooling, plus rebates for heat pump water heaters, electrical panel upgrades, wiring and insulation (up to $14,000 total per household).
- Households earning up to 150% of area median income are expected to qualify.
- Lower-income households could have up to 100% of project costs covered; others up to 50%.
- The program is not open yet, and rebates are not expected to be retroactive, so only projects started after launch will qualify.
Thinking about a heat pump? Contact us and we'll let you know as soon as this rebate becomes available.
What Happened to the Federal Tax Credit?
The federal 25C tax credit for heat pumps and other energy efficiency upgrades ended for equipment installed after December 31, 2025. If your system was installed in 2025, you can still claim it on your 2025 tax return using IRS Form 5695. Talk to your tax preparer for details.
Important Dates
- Equipment must be installed during the 2026 calendar year to qualify for 2026 rebates.
- Rebate paperwork must be submitted by late January 2027.
- Funding is limited and rebate amounts can change at any time, so don't wait until the last minute.
